In order to create the People’s National Party (PNP), eleven of the sixteen members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) National Executive Committee (NEC) have resigned.
Their move comes after they failed to concur with a High Court verdict on April 8 that upheld the PNC’s General Secretary Janet Nabla’s suspension for gross misconduct, insubordination, and incompetence and reinstated David Apasera as the party’s head.
The PNC declared in a statement issued on April 8, 2024, that the three-year leadership crisis that had badly affected the party has come to an end as a result of the court’s decision.
However, PNP Interim General Secretary Sulemana Seidu said at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, April 17, that the party could not function with a head who lacked credibility and integrity.
We regretfully inform that we have decided to disband the People’s National Convention (PNC) and create the People’s National Party (PNP). We have decided to leave the PNC because we don’t agree with the supreme court’s decision from April 8, 2024, to reinstate some people who, in our opinion, were wrongfully removed from leadership roles because of financial mismanagement and wrongdoing.
“We, the National Executive Committee members who represent eleven of the sixteen regions, are not in agreement with the decision. We cannot, in good faith, allow people who lack credibility and integrity to lead our party, particularly in light of the impeccable sacrifice legacy left by our founder, Dr. Hilla Limann.
As the crucial 2024 elections draw near, we understand how important credibility is. Honesty, integrity, and transparency are characteristics that the People’s National Party will defend. He declared, “We will not waver from these beliefs, nor will we permit those with dirty hands to tarnish the legacy of our founder.”
As they started this new journey, Mr. Seidu encouraged Ghanaians to continue to support them.
He promised to continue the tradition of honesty and integrity established by Dr. Hilla Limann and to put forth endless effort to further the interests of our country.
Additionally, they introduced the party’s interim executives, Janet Nabla being named National Chairman.
The others were Francis Oppong, Vice Chairman; Sulemana Seidu, General Secretary; Abdul Kadri Issah, Deputy Secretary; Francis Daasu, National Organiser; Faustina Anane, Deputy Organiser; Jessica Aputare, Treasurer; Zakaria Mohammed, Deputy Treasurer; Patience Lamisi Adams, National Women’s Organiser; Sandra Adepa, Deputy Women’s Organiser; Muniru S. Mohammed, National Youth Organiser; Bright Foto, Deputy Youth Organiser; and Samuel Ayesu, Communication Secretary.
