Some Ghanaian football enthusiasts were detained in Qatar for selling World Cup match tickets.
This was revealed by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, on Tuesday, 29th November 2022, when he visited the Ghanaian contingent who had traveled to Qatar to support the Black Stars in the ongoing World Cup with the Ambassador of Ghana to Qatar, Mohamed Noureddine Ismail, and some security operatives.
In his talk to supporters in the Al Madaen flat in Doha, the Minister expressed his heartfelt thanks to the delegation for their unwavering support in Qatar so far.
Mr Ussif added that Ghana’s economy was in serious trouble, which is why he decided to make an appeal to people and organizations for contributions and sponsorships to assist cover some of the expenditures for the Ghanaian team.
He also urged fans not to sell the tickets they had worked so hard to get for them, noting that a few Ghanaians had been detained and charged with selling tickets provided to them to allow them admission to the stadium.
The Ambassador of Ghana to Qatar, on his part, praised the Ghanaian delegation on their discipline so far and urged them to continue displaying Ghana’s unique culture.
Mr. George Mensah, a security specialist with the Ghana police force, also praised the supporters and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
He went on to say that they were there to protect the delegation at all times.
