The National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has written to seek the permission of the Minister of Education for teacher trainees to start to fend for themselves.
According to PRINCOF, the current market trends, coupled with indebtedness to suppliers, is making it unbearable for the Colleges to provide three-square meals for the trainees.
“In the light of the above, it is the wish of PRINCOF to be given permission to ask students to start fending for themselves,” a letter signed by Dr Harriet Naki Amui, the Executive Secretary of PRINCOF, to Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum said.
It added that failure of the Minister of Education to grant the permission could lead to disruption of the already stretched academic year.
The letter had also complained about the turning down of a request for an upward review of the feeding grants paid by the trainees.
The principals, therefore, want the permission to be granted for implementation from Monday, November 7.
