The Presidential race is getting tighter even in the early days and the victory of a party currently is dependent on the choice the delegates make in the upcoming NPP and NDC internal election primaries. For the NDC, there is a high confidence level that John Dramani Mahama will lead the National Democratic Congress. The problem however is in the New Patriotic Party. The votes of the delegates seem to be divided between two powerful hopefuls, Alan Kyeremanten and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Now, Kennedy Agyapong is gradually rising and he is gathering some votes from the banks of Alan Kyeremanten and Bawumia.
A recent video circulating on social media captured a top NPP Member of Parliament predicting that the next President of Ghana come 2024 will come from the Central Region. The Lawmaker for the Assin Central constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, was the one who made that emphatic statement. He specifically stated that the next President will come from the Assin area. And he made that statement in a church in his constituency.
“What God has said, is what will surely come to pass. No human being can change the will of God. God has said and promised Ghanaians that in 2024, the President who will come and lead the country is from Assin, here in the Central Region”, he said.
This statement from him changed the atmosphere in the church and the people received him very well. It is obvious that Kennedy Agyapong has begun his campaign and grassroots works. And this has put him in a comfortable lead considering the restrictions that have been imposed on his major opponents, Alan Kyeremanten and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Restriction in the sense that, they have been limited from focusing on their Presidential ambitions based on the huge role they are occupying as Vice President and Trade Minister respectively. The only hope is for them to resign but it seems they are not willing to do that.
