Following FIFA’s decision to increase squad sizes because to the Covid-19 pandemic and the tournament’s peculiar schedule, Ghana will be permitted to name 26 players for the 2022 World Cup. This year, national teams like the Black Stars and others can only use a total of 26 players in their final lineups.
Coaches could only bring 23 players in the past. “Given the need to retain additional flexibility due to the FIFA World Cup 2022’s unique timing in the global calendar, as well as the broader context of the disruptive effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on squads before and during tournaments, the Bureau has decided the following,” read a statement from FIFA.
The number of players who can be released has gone boosted from 35 to 55. The minimum and number of players that will be on the final list has been raised to 23 and 26, respectively. The 23 to 26 players on the final list will play their last club match on November 13, 2022.
The team bench can hold a maximum of 26 persons, up to 15 substitutes and 11 officials, one of whom must be the team doctor. The Qatari competition will start on November 21 and last until December 18. In the group stage, Ghana will compete against Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
