Authorities in the UK have decided to facilitate the entry rules for travellers from other countries as the government attempts to further reopen the travel sector, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
According to the new rules that will be in place from February 11, vaccinated travellers from other countries will only need to fill in the locator form upon entry to Britain.
In addition, from February 11, all persons who have not completed their immunization process against the virus will only be required to undergo a pre-departure test and a PCR test on or pre-day two after they arrive in Britain and fill in the passenger locator form.
Such a decision means that the UK has become among the first western European countries to lift the quarantine requirement for arrivals from other territories.
The government has stressed that the success of the UK’s vaccine and booster shot rollout has helped reduce the travel restrictions imposed to stop the further spread of the Coronavirus.
Such changes aim to ease the travel process for passengers and prevent another devastating situation in the travel industry as a result of the Coronavirus.
The government has announced that children aged 12-15 in England will be eligible to prove their vaccination status or proof of prior infection through an NHS COVID Pass from February 3 for outbound travel.- Advertisement –
In this regard, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps stressed that “We made the right calls at the right time, and thanks to our vaccine and booster rollout, it’s paying off – allowing us to safely remove nearly all COVID-19 travel restrictions for vaccinated travellers.”
“We already have one of the most open economies in Europe with the least restrictions, and because of the changes today, we now have a travel sector to match it,” Shapps pointed out.
Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid has stressed that the UK has entered a new chapter in the fight against the Coronavirus, and the country is taking a balanced approach as citizens learn to live with the virus.
“Thanks to the success of the vaccination programme, now is the right time to take this additional step towards opening up international travel once again,” Javid pointed out.
Based on the figures provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), over 15,859,290 people have tested positive for the virus in the UK since the start of the pandemic, while 153,862 people have died during the same period.
