Armed robbers have different ways of launching their attacks. They always have a different style depending on the location and how they want to attack. One location where armed robbers operate is on the highways. Here, drivers and passengers are greatly affected since they face the deadly operations of the armed robbers directly.
Many persons have lost their lives due to the activities with others sustaining various gunshot wounds. A driver whose name has been given as Kofi Mensah has detailed the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare on one of the modus operandi of the armed robbers in attacking innocent persons on the highways and how the police can counter.
According to the driver who was speaking in a meeting with the IGP at the Neoplan Station in the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, the armed robbers use the parts of the road that have been paved with blocks. He says, there are intersections on the roads that are full of pavement blocks and as a result, weeds have grown into them. In most of these intersections, the drivers have no other option than to slow down the vehicle.

The armed robbers who will be hiding in the nearby bush then push one of their gang members on the road making the driver believe that whoever is there needs help. Immediately the driver stops, the other members of the armed robbery gang appear from the bush and attack them. Kofi Mensah tells the IGP that the armed robbers have used that trick to rob many drivers and passengers and something has to be done immediately. With this, the police will have to be mounting barriers at these intersections to scare the armed robbers away.
Apart from the pavement, Kofi Mensah adds that the bad nature of the roads in Ghana do not only causes accidents but provides fertile ground for armed robbers to attack drivers. The IGP met the drivers to listen to their grievances and the challenges they face whilst on the roads. The main purpose of his meeting is to reduce the rate of road accidents and criminal activities. The trick of the armed robbers given to the IGP will go a long way to assist the police on how to mount their barriers on the highways.
