After all is said and done, night will fall and there would be the need to rest. Such is the reality of mankind. One second, the whole world is celebrating our arrival into this world, within a twinkling of an eye, all but our memory would be left, causing loved ones and family so much pain and heartbreak.

As though it was just yesterday, it is exactly one year since the former president of the country, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings passed on. For so many, the experience was surreal, with many still in doubt.

For those who were born during his leadership, he had been an ever present phenomenon, through to when he exited as head of state. His ‘booms’ and charismatic personality had always loomed large everywhere in the country.

Opinion of him would forever be divided like the faces of a coin. Whiles some view him with reverence, others have bitter stories to tell.

Whatever our experience and perception of the man was, nothing can be changed.

The Ghana Armed Forces officially unveiled his grave and once again, it hits home hard. The ever present, ever powerful, charismatic and adventure loving dare-devil adrenalin loving Rawlings, the one who made every little child growing up in the 90’s believe that every fighter jet flying above was ‘J.J’, sleeps quietly, with no noise.

Such is what awaits all of us. Let us love one another, for we will not be here for too long.
