Chelsea is on the verge of bringing in yet another world class player to the English Premier League. After being thought to be on Chelsea’s radar, Fenerbahce center-back Attila Szalai has now agreed to join the Blues, according to CNN Turkey.
According to the report, Fenerbahce was willing to sell Szalai and has finally agreed to allow the highly-rated defender join Chelsea for around €23.4 million ($26.7 million). Szalai is expected to sign a six-year contract with the Blues, with an annual salary of € 4 million ($4.5 million), according to the report. The 23-year-old is one of Hungary’s most sought-after players.
Szalai captured the attention of top European clubs after excelling in his first season in the Turkish Super Lig and in international matches for Hungary, with Chelsea not wasting time to pounce on him.
While the Blues are unsure how Szalai will fit into English football, being dubbed the “Hungarian Virgil Van Dijk” provides Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel an idea of what the defender is capable of on the field.
Atop that, the Hungary international has also earned rave reviews from people he has worked with in the past, including his Hungary Under-21 manager Michael Boris.
