January 2021 fuel price was 4.9 per litre, November 2021 the price of fuel has gone up to 6.9 which means that there has been a whooping 41% increase in fuel prices which which outrageous. The coalition of Government Transport Operators have given the government up until 15th of November 2021 to do something about fuel prices else they will be going on strike.
According to them, they are expecting the government to scrap off some taxes and levies in order to reduce the increasing price of fuel in the country. Some Ghanaians talking to GBC news said it was a good move but in the end it is only going to affect those who use commercial vehicles or trotro. One person being interviewed said even though these Operators were doing what could benefit all other users of commercial vehicles but should they go on strike, most people are going to suffer instead.
Most Ghanaians board trotro to workplaces, events, market, church and other places which means that if the government doesn’t respond as soon as possible, it will be very difficult to commute from one place to another and the only alternative will be to pick a taxi or order for bolt, uber or yango which is also very expensive.
