Ghanaians haven’t seen much of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare on how he relates to his officers. As fierce as he is being portrayed in most publications, there is something more jovial and pleasing about the personality that gets staff of the Ghana Police Service to love him more.
On a usual tour in the North-Eastern part of the country, Dr Dampare joined night patrol officers to boost their morale. Presumed to be a high powered morale song, one could see the nerves on the skin of the Inspector-General constrict as he charges his fist outwards among his staff.
You really can sense the energy in this, and surely will find it pretty amusing seeing the rather calm and gentle Dr Dampare get aggressive. Like they say, “greater things are in small bottles”, you might mistake the less muscular man to be weak and less offensive should you provoke him.
Think again, after seeing this photo of him out a show to his officers about bodily power. He epitomises the true strength of a police officer and finds the right spot to reinvigorate the spirit of night patrol officers who might have been weary from their assignments.
IGP Dampare made it far easier for his staff on patrol to feel how satisfied he is with their work. With a high-level intelligence expert, IGP Dampare appreciates the need for police officers to stay alert while on duty.
It is believed that his demonstration during his tour offered patrol officers and officers at checkpoints, to explore activities that could keep them energised throughout the night shift. It makes so much sense seeing him in action and lowering his ego to prove to his officers that they are more capable than they can ever imagine.
Above all else, it is important to note that the northern territories of Ghana have had the police aggressively combat crime, especially highway robberies. By far the police have performed exceedingly well and this has improved the confidence the people have and ultimately the sense of security for travellers and traders who commute long distances on the highway.
