Two Police officers have been confirmed dead while three remain in very critical condition after the vehicle they were travelling last night in to respond to an emergency on the Walewale – Bolgatanga highway crashed. The three officers are currently responding to treatment at a hospital in Walewale in the Northeast region and plans are far advanced to airlift them to Accra for further treatment.
According to a Ghana Police Service Statement, the officers are highly trained members of the Anti-robbery Taskforce who were responding to a robbery incident on the Bolgatanga highway when the fatal crash happened. The statement has not indicated how the accident happened except to say that families of the deceased officers as well as the injured have been informed about the sad development and that the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, has spoken them.
The Northeast region just as it has become notorious for violent crimes such as robbery has also become notorious for crashes involving the Police. In September 2020,another four police officers who were also attending to emergency were also involved in a crash which led to the demise of police lance corporal, Ernest Oteng, with three other officers sustaining injuries.
