Most Hollywood movie stars we see on our screens today are undoubtedly from Africa, and some also from Ghana. You possible may know of names like Idris Elba, Ama Busia, or Boris Kodjoe, as great Ghanaian talents who are doing so well in Hollywood.
In this article, our main focus is on the Hollywood award-winning actor Idris Elba.
Idris was born on September 6th, 1972 in London, England. He is an actor, writer, producer, rapper, singer, and DJ. His other popular names are; DJ Big Driis, Big Driis the Londoner, Big Driis, 7 Dub, Me Innit.
Idriss Elba was born in Hackney and East Ham, London, to a Sierra Leonean father and a Ghanaian mother. Elba’s parents were originally from Sierra Leone and later moved to London.
Idris Elba has been married three times and is due to marry his fourth wife Sabrina Dhowre on 26 April 2019 in Marrakesh. He was previously married to Danish model Hanne “Kim” Nørgaard (from 1999 to 2003) and Sonya Nicole Nicole Hamlin (for four months in 2006). He has two children: a daughter with Kim and a son with former girlfriend Naiyana Garth.

Idris Elba was well known to be a Ghanaian after being featured in a Netflix Movie dubbed ” Beast of No Nation” which half of the movie was shot in Ghana. He has appeared in Hollywood films like Ridley Scott’s, Gangster, Prometheus, Thor the Dark World, Avengers, Age of Ultron.
He has won several awards and is admired and respected by people all over the world.

Idris Elba has appeared in music videos for Fat Joe (2002),[47]. Angie Stone (2004) and rapper Giggs (2010). In 2006, he recorded the four-song EP Big Man for Hevlar Records. He co-produced and performed on the intro to Jay-Z’s album American Gangster (2007). In 2009, Elba announced the release of his first single “Please Be True”.
Idris Elba performed a rap for the second album by Noel Fielding and Sergio Pizzorno’s band, the Loose Tapestries. He also featured on the remix of a Ghanaian music group, VVIP’s single “Selfie” together with Nigerian rapper Phyno. He recently was featured on a song with Sarkodie which gained massive numbers on various streaming platforms. He also doubles as a Producer and has knowledge in camera operating. He has been to Ghana several times and has visited the country several times.

Elba hosted The Best FIFA Football Awards 2017 at the London Palladium on 23 October 2017. During the show, he took a selfie of “the best team in the world” which included Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. He has also featured in various television commercials for Sky box-sets in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2019.
He currently signed a deal with Apple to produce original content through his Green Door Pictures production company.

Idris Elba was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2016 New Year Honours for services to drama. In 2017, Elba won the male title for the “Rear of the Year” award in Britain. In September 2018, he was one of 50 people named for “making London awesome” and helping to shape the city’s cultural landscape who was featured in Time Out magazine’s 50th-anniversary edition.
In the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Powerlist, Elba was listed in the Top 100 of the most influential people in the UK of African/African-Caribbean descent.
