The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has made a donation to veteran actor Psalm Adjeteyfio who recently appealed to the public for help to pay his rent.
Mr. Adjeteyfio had said he needed GHS3,000 to settle his rent, or he’ll be evicted from his current abode.
“I don’t do anything. I have become a charity case. Right now, we need GHS3,000. That would cover six months’ [rent] advance payment,” he told Emmanuel Agyemang in an interview on Step 1 TV.
Psalm Adjateyfio, popularly known as TT in the Taxi Driver television series, also said that his impoverished situation is a result of poor working conditions during his active acting days.
According to TT, most of the producers at that time cheated him and that most of them did not give him his due.
“They stole his money,” he insisted.
The Vice President, upon seeing the video, asked his aide to contact the presenter, Emmanuel Agyemang, to help connect to the actor.
According to Emmanuel Agyemang, through his aide, Dr. Bawumia presented GHS30,000 to pay for the actor’s rent for five years.
He said the Vice President also gave TT GHS20,000 for his general upkeep.
Mr. Adjeteyfio, had complained that he no longer gets acting gigs and also not engaged in any active work at the moment.
He said his survival now is hinged on the benevolence of people.
Psalm Adjeteyfio, apart from playing a lead role in ‘Taxi Driver’, has also starred in movies like Papa Lasisi Good Bicycle, American Boy, The Chosen One, The Scent of Danger, a stab in the dark, among others.
