Germany suspended use of the coronavirus vaccine created by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford in the under-60s, due to renewed concerns over reports of blood clots. The move came after the country’s medicines regulator found 31 cases of a rare type of blood clot in people vaccinated with the vaccine produced by the Anglo-Swedish drugmaker.
Germany halted the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as a precaution, with Italy, France and Spain issuing the same decision soon after.
At a media briefing at the Jubilee House, Monday, Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin said the donation gesture resulted from President Akufo-Addo’s bilateral discussion with his German counterpart during his recent visit to Germany.
According to him, having received confirmation in this regard, President Akufo-Addo is making arrangements to take delivery of the vaccines.
“The German Chancellor made it known to the President that a total of 1.2 million vaccines, were to be given to Ghana but a few hours ago, I got confirmation from the President, that this has increased from 1.2 million to 1.5 million.”Related Articles
