There is this saying from early ages that goes thus, ” if the owner of the farm tarries unnecessarily in identifying a thief, the thief will conveniently label the owner of the farm as the thief”.
Dear Sir, I write this letter in response to the growing anxieties and pains stalking the land, especially the state of insecurity, corruption, high cost of living, abuse of power, etc which have engulfed the country.
Sir, no one who labored to build a house, and bequeath it to someone, will still aloof and unconcerned, while the fruit of his labour is being destroyed.
A great leader, is someone who cares for and makes sacrifices for his people and that is what you did when you led this great nation that we all so much cherish from 2013 until you handed over power in 2017 and that is what is expected of you now that the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Sir, in case you have not noticed, anytime Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, talks stupid and sounds like a child, is when you take him on or when the media exposes him for who he really is. It therefore goes to suggest that, he fears you more than any single individual in this country.
The truth Sir, is that, he has evaluated himself and has accepted the fact that you are better than him. He finds in you a competition he cannot beat; all he has left is to detest you, he fears you to death.
The open hatred because you are better than him, has manifested in so many ways, remember how he snubbed you in 2019 at the Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum.
He did not care and could not be bothered that not only was the country watching but the whole world.
Sir, Recall that Ghanaians were told that you had made life inconvenient for them, but the scenario has grown worse with President Akufo-Addo. No wonder the political theorist Harold Laski said, “It is better a government does not exist than having a government under which people continue to wallow in abject poverty.”
At this juncture, if you do not speak out, the upcoming generation won’t forgive you. The only person, whose voice will mean something to Ghanaians is you, if you cannot tell your successor to sit up and ride whatever storm he has created through his cluelessness, at least assure Ghanaians that, better days are coming.
Under this government, the nation’s democracy has turned to autocracy. You dare not say the emperor is naked, even Judges have been attacked and courts which were hallowed grounds have been desecrated by appendages of the president and no one cannot utter a word, lest you become the next victim.
When you declared Sir that, you are a dead goat and Ghanaians came hard on you, little did we know that, you are a very healthy goat, the real dead and damaged goat is Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Akufo-Addo, has not shown that he is the leader Ghanaians are seeking, everyday he surprises us, with his lack of vision and the fact that he has not realized it, shows he was not ready for the task, when he told Ghanaians to try him.
I think it is high time we looked at the situation in the country from the angle that we do not have a president.
Sir, The truth of the matter is that never have we witnessed on this scale the excruciating pains and feelings of hopelessness which is now pervasive, not even the hardship during the 80’s when the country went through structural adjustment did we suffer like this.
Never have we sunken to this depths of despair with prospects of further decline. We feel captured, vanquished, obviously betrayed and worried as citizens of this country.
Prices of goods and commodities see an increase on a daily basis, kenkey, banku etc which are among our staple foods, only shrink in size every day and the leader of the country is not perturbed.
He cares only about his welfare, he wants to live like an Arabian King, bathing in the air. We don’t have a president, what we have is a monarch.
Sir, since 2017, as a country, what we have done with the current president is whiles driving forward; we have been looking in the rearview mirror.
When it is said that, there is light at the end of the tunnel, the tunnel keeps getting darker. You are that light. You are still the hope of a better tomorrow.
Sir, as the former President, who laid a solid foundation both economic, social and infrastructure take-off, history will summon you to its judgement room to answer some certain questions. What did you do when your successor was running down everything you labored to build, did you call him to order would be one of such questions? History beckons and nobody but you would be put on the spot.
Sir, courage and purposeful leadership is required to steer our national ship into an oasis of plenty from this long trek in the wilderness of want and lack. Ghanaians look up to you for hope, because that is all they have got now.
Change does not happen by divine intervention. Change happens because people got sick and tired of being sick and tired, Ghanaians are sick and tired and I know you are too Sir. Speak up, organize a press conference and address your people, your voice is the only voice that could the vacuum.
Sir, remember one of the quotes of an American author and journalist, Anna Quindlen, who says, “Look back, to slavery, to suffrage, to integration and one thing is clear. Fashions in bigotry come and go. The right thing lasts.”
Akufo-Addo, can play tough but he dreads you, he trembles at the mention of your name, please torment him for us, give him sleepless nights, as he has done Ghanaians, and let him regret for ever becoming president.
Sir, this is all Ghanaians ask from you.
