Former President Kufuor is one of the fondest presidents Ghana has ever had. His tenure saw a transformation of many things in Ghana and though he himself was surprised that his party was voted out in 2008, he accepted that Ghanaians had spoken. The ex-president has been quiet after he left office, occasionally coming out to respond to certain issues.
Many have chastised the former president for not being vocal to point out some of the mistakes his party is making. His critics claim he stays aloof while things go wrong in the country. In his latest tweet on Twitter today, Friday, July 23, 2021, the former leader has sent a strong message to the leaders of the country. His tweet, though looking general, can be directed at the leadership of the country headed by President Akufo-Addo.
According to Kufuor, there was the need for leaders to invest in the young people because that is the only way to secure the future. It is a common saying that that youth are the future, but what if the youth are living in conditions that are unfavorable? What if some youth are trying to make ends meet and yet the systems in place e are preventing them? Can we say the future is secured? Can we blame the youth when they rise in protests and demand for better conditions?
The message is clear and apparently the former president has noticed thus sending this subtle message to the country’s leaders. Investment is key and the youth must be empowered to prepare them for what lies ahead.
