Charles Nii Armah Mensah, the leader of Shatta Movement is generally considered by many Ghanaians as a down-to-earth personality with a large fun base, connotatively refered to as “the street”. Although there is no fixed definition for the street, it is figuratively used to refer to low earning group of people, who struggle on daily basis to make a living. Shatta has on a number of occasions recognized the support and contributions of the street to his success and the journey to stardom.
In the wake of social media agitations dubbed #FixtheCountry, many people expected Shatta Wale to add his vioce just as few other celebrities did. But this did not happen.
To the dismay of the street, Shatta has rather descended heavily on the agitators. In a series of Facebook post today, Shatta Wale attacked the advocates of the Fix the country campaign, using unprintable words. For a person whose rise to stardom could not have been possible without the street, the least he could do is to remain mute rather than subjecting his followers to verbal abuse. This is a slap in the face of the street who have been expressing their disappointment on social media. The street deserve unqualified appology from Wale, and this must be done in the soonest.
