The National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has warned politicians not to use the youth as tools for violence ahead of tomorrow’s general elections.
“I want to emphasize that politicians themselves will be very unjust on our young people to explore their venerability and use them as tools for violence against political opponent”, Spokesperson for National Chief Imam, Sheik Aremeyaw Shaibu has said.
“Violence is bad, it’s evil, it destroys the accomplishment of so many years, its divides societies so that is exactly what we don’t want politicians to use our young people for. I want to emphasise that politicians themselves will be very unjust on our young people to explore their venerability and use them as tools for violence against political opponent”, the spokesperson chided.
Speaking on violence which has become common among youths in Zongo communities across the country, Sheik Aremeyaw Shaibu noted that Muslim youths have involved themselves in political violence because they have interpreted “Jihad” wrongly.
According to him, politicians have wrongly invoked “Jihad” as teaching of the Muslims beliefs in a wrong context and at the wrong time.
“Jihad does not need you necessarily going to fight with somebody and kill. Jihad deals with the inner struggle of the self to fight against evil. And then when it comes to matters of oppression Jihad can be invoked as defensive mechanism that self-defense and those some in which it was used. But in matters of peace and where we are living now, Jihad has no relevance in our political terms and I think that it will not be used”, he added.
