The Presidency has responded to a letter from the Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo concerning an order from the President directing his to proceed on his accumulated leave.
In a letter from the Auditor-General to the President which has allegedly not been received by the Presidency but has been widely circulating on social media and other media outlets the Auditor-General suspects witch-hunting because his work is seen as an embarrassment to the government.
But a swift response from the Presidency indicates that the work of the Auditor-General has never been an embarrassment to the government considering the fact that his office has always been provided with the requisite materials needed to make it eefficient.
“The Constitutional independence of the office of the Auditor-General is guaranteed and rightly so. It does not, however, give license for illegal conduct. Contrary to your false belief, the President does not think your work is embarrassing his government. In fact, the President has ensured that you have been provided with all the necessary resources needed for the efficient running of the Office of the Auditor-General and considers your work a critical part of good governance in the republic.”
The Presidency said the assertion that the decision to direct that the Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo to proceed on his accumulated leave was not taken in good faith is unfortunate and without foundation describing the Political undertones of his letter as unfortunate.
“The Political undertones of your letter is very unfortunate and ought not to be encouraged. I need not remind you that the Auditor-General is an office and not a person such that if the person for the time being occupying same is unavailable the office ceases to exist. Handing over all matters relating to the office of the Auditor General will not have any implication for its constitutional independence and operation.”
