The Council of Zongo Chiefs in the newly created Ahafo Region has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of neglecting their region in his Zongo Development fund which aims at helping to develop Zongo communities in the country.
“Since the day the ministry was established by the president, people of Zongo communities in the Ahafo Region have not seen a single attempt to develop our region area”, Chief Mohammed Bashiru Haruna President of Council of Zongo Chiefs in Ahafo Region told MyNews in an interview.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 2016 promised to set up a separate ministry for people in the Zongo community to accelerate development in those communities lagging behind across the nation.
After his election, the President instituted the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development with Dr. Mustapha Abdul–Hamid as Minister to institute plans to develop these communities.
Though the government on many occasions has claimed the ministry is doing well, some political analysts and social commentators say it has not done enough as said by the president earlier.
However, Chief Mohammed Bashiru Haruna speaking to Syxtus Eshun in the region showed appreciation for the government’s decision to set up the ministry. “We the people of Zongo are very grateful to the president for instituting a ministry for us”.
“It’s long ago when somebody came to us and said he is from the office of the Zongo ministry and we sent them information to be delivered to the President to come and help since we had not seen anything”, he said.
“We also made them know that, if they are not ready to relay our plea, then they should lead us to the office so we can make our own complaint because we need development in our community if not, our people will blame us for not being responsible”, he added
Chief Bashiru reiterated that people in the Zongo communities in the Ahafo Region have not seen a single development in the region years after the ministry was established.
