Contractors working on the six footbridges on the Madina-Adenta stretch of the N4 Highway say the project will be completed in six months.

They made the disclosure after leading President Akufo-Addo to inspect the progress of work at the sites.

The visit by President Akufo-Addo forms part of his 3-day official tour of the Greater Accra Region.

Justmoh Construction, one of the six contractors, said they were assiduously working to complete the project on time.

“We have done some road markings, we have also done some crash barriers here, we are also doing some civil works at the SDA junction to make sure that the turning is okay. We are also doing pavements on some islands. There is a different contractor for each of the bridges. We hope to finish all these works by April,” he said.

Another contractor who was hopeful of a good weather said the project could be completed ahead of schedule.

The contractors also said they have put in place mechanisms to ensure that the footbridges are disability-friendly after completion.

Akufo-Addo after the tour of the sites said he was impressed with the work done so far on the GH¢5 million project.

He gave assurance that his government will make funds available to ensure that the project is completed on schedule.

The non-completion of the bridges over the past decade has resulted in the death of many pedestrians leading to a civil protest that left some persons injured from police actions.

Days after the mass protest, some construction workers were seen erecting hoardings for work on the footbridges to begin.

The footbridges, when completed, is expected to save the lives of many pedestrians who continue to risk their lives by competing with speeding vehicles for space on the road as they cross to either side of the highway.
