Member of parliament for Assin Central the Honourable Kennedy Agyapong is pleading with President Akufo-Addo to step aside for him to contest the 2020 elections in order to beat what he calls a ‘shameless candidate’ John Mahama.
His reason, MyNews learnt, is that Akufo-Addo is too big for John Mahama for which reason he wants the President to take a rest for the meantime.
According to him, when he wins, he will then handover power to Akufo-Addo to govern. He questioned the sense in the projections of pundits that “Mahama is difficult to beat in 2020”.
“Akufo-Addo is too big for Mahama… me… me Kennedy Agyapong I can beat
Mahama in any election. If Akufo-Addo likes, he should step aside for
me to face Mahama and I will do all the campaign. I will beat him! And
when I win I will bring Akufo-Addo back to rule” he said on Adom TV Tuesday.
Kennedy Agyapong admitted things were hard in the country, but that Akufo-Addo “is now building the foundation for Ghana” because “Mahama ate the foundation of
Ghana in his mouth into his stomach”
He was speaking on the comment by former president Mahama that he is the goalkeeper NPP Fears.
Mr Mahama took a swipe at his critics who think if he gets the opportunity to lead the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), it will derail the fortunes of the party in the 2020 general elections.
“I hear our colleagues say that, don’t you have people in NDC, why are u bringing the former president? The question you should ask them is, is it your business? Is it your matter? It’s not your matter, leave us to choose who we want.” he said.
“It’s like Kotoko telling Hearts don’t put this goalkeeper in your goalpost if you put him we will score you. What is your matter? After all you want to score them. The truth is that the only goalkeeper the NPP fears is me. You must elect a person who can win power for us. I believe that if you think carefully about it, if you are looking for a person who can bring power to the NDC, then that person is me,” John Mahama added. He made the remark when he was addressing constituency delegates and some supporters of the party at Tumu in the Sissala East municipality to round up his 3-day campaign tour of the Upper West region.
