Yesterday saw two giant companies coming together in an agreement to spearhead the rise of the fallen Ghana movie industry.
The deal was signed in a colourful event which was held at the at the Watch & Dine cinema at the Kumasi City Mall, yesterday, August 3. The event was witnessed by some of the Kumawood movie stars, Producers/Directors, and other stakeholders. Nana Osei Nkwantabisa (Middle belt Coordinator, Zylofon Media), Frank Owusu (Zylofon Arts Fund Communication Dir.), Nana Brew (Board Member, Zylofon Arts Fund), Linda Asiedu(Project Manager, Zylofon Media) among others from Zylofon Media foresaw the signing of the deal with Watch & Dine manager, Bill Agyemang.
Speaking at the event, Frank Owusu addressed the downfall of the movie industry. He then went on to reiterate how Zylofon Media is eager to revamp the ailing industry by setting aside GHs1 million as a fund for movie producers etc. to solicit for the production of quality movies etc. “Zylofon Arts Fund has come to stay and it is for you the movie producer and other entities to make good use of it,” he said.
Also, prior to the signing of the deal, Nana Brew in his speech disclosed that one of the ways a movie producer could access the fund is to have a movie that suits the standard of their establishment. To meet their standard, the movie should have a good storyline, project Ghanaian or African Values, good sound, quality pictures etc.
Although the deal between the two parties in its entirety was not made known, a certain aspect of it was disclosed to the public. The agreement will foresee a 60-40 percentage distribution of revenue from a movie shown at Watch & Dine cinema between the former and the movie producer. Reading out some elements from the deal, Nana Brew revealed that films should be rated before shown at the cinema and also registration of International property rights for the film should be ensured.
