Former President John Mahama has given what appears to be a perfect riposte to the jabs that headed his way when former President Jerry John Rawlings took him to the cleaners on the June 4 anniversary commemoration.
According to the founder of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Mahama led the party astray and that culminated in the party suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of the then Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party. He advocated a change in the leadership of the party since anything short of that would spell doom and gloom for the party in the next elections.
In a response to Chairman Rawlings, former President John Dramani Mahama has scathingly attacked his party founder as a useless god that should not be worshipped any further.
“We have worshipped the Volta god for so long. It is time to build the party beyond individuals. No sacrifice would please him. “ Former President John Mahama said at the party’s unity walk staged in the Volta regional capital of Ho.
This description and direct insult to the founder of the NDC is in sharp contrast to the plea for clemency and forgiveness by Madam Anita Desosoo, a First Vice Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress at the June 4 uprising anniversary commemoration.
It would be recalled that at the annual commemoration of the June 4 uprising anniversary commemoration, Madam Anita Desosoo, upon mounting the podium to speak to the gathering, on behalf of the party, apologized ‘profusely’ to the founder of the party for all the crimes committed against him by party members and leadership. This apology was confirmed by the Deputy General Secretary of the party, Koku Anyidoho as having the overwhelming endorsement of the leadership of the party.
Mahama’s rather bellicose response to the former leader of the party makes nonsense of the apology rendered by Anita Desosoo on behalf of the party.
The battle lines seem to have been drawn. The liberated barking dog has had its tail pinched once again by former President John Dramani Mahama. There appears to be no love lost between the two former Presidents of the Republic, and only the coming days will reveal whether a retaliation will be forthcoming from the founder of the NDC.
