On Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Bukom Boxing Arena, boxing legend and three-time world champion Azumah Nelson will return to the ring for an exhibition match against EU Ambassador Irchad Razaaly.
Highlighting Ghana’s Europe Month celebrations, Nelson, who retired from the sport years ago, will square up against Razaaly in the “Diplo Rumble” exhibition bout.
Ten fights from amateur to professional levels will be contested at the event, which aims to honour Europe Month and raise money for the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).
Ambassador Razaaly highlighted the value of youth and skill development in the EU-Ghana partnership while expressing pride in the cooperation between the EU Delegation to Ghana and regional partners.
In addition to the spectacular boxing match, Europe Month celebrations will feature a range of events that promote communication and cooperation between Ghana and the European Union.
One of the most important of these is an annual partnership dialogue that takes place on May 6 and brings together representatives from government institutions, ambassadors from EU member states, and vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to talk about issues like trade, security, and sustainable development.
The month will conclude with the prestigious Europe Day reception, which is expected to strengthen Ghana-EU relations even further. It will take place on May 9 at the EU Ambassador’s Residence and is hailed as one of Accra’s largest diplomatic gatherings.
