The founder and head of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Mr. Christian Kwabena Andrews, has turned down an invitation to become a member of Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC) in the general elections of 2024.
Mr. Andrews made it clear that GUM would not associate itself with a movement or any political party.
He gave as his excuse for not wanting to join the alliance Mr. Kyerematen’s disappearance from the Electoral Commission’s records.
He emphasised the difference between ARC as a movement and GUM as a political party, saying that political parties should form alliances rather than movements.
Mr Andrews expressed his readiness for GUM to consider forming an alliance with a political party leading the polls in a potential run-off scenario.
Speaking on Monday, April 29, 2024, on Class 91.3 FM’s morning show with Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang as the host, Mr. Andrews recommended that Mr. Kyerematen instead think about joining GUM in order to further the goal of defeating the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
He emphasised that GUM is a political organisation as opposed to ARC, which he defined as a movement, and that alliances ought to be formed between political entities.
