Okyeame Kwame has pleasant memories of how his musical career began roughly 29 years ago and how he has continued to be successful over the years.
The Hiplife icon claimed that after graduating from senior high school in 1995, he started practicing four hours a day.
He wrote on Facebook that he read hip-hop magazines, watched live band rehearsals all the time, searched for different rap music, and prayed to God to help him become a successful rap artist.
In 1999, the renowned Ghanaian music awards show, the Ghana Music Awards (now known as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards), presented Artiste of the Year to Okyeame Kwame and his musical partner Okyeame Quophi, collectively known as Akyeame (The Linguists).
In 2009, Okyeame Kwame took home the trophy performing alone.
“I still receive nominations and accolades today. I am grateful to all who held me up on the way and appreciate you (my fans) for the love for my work,” he remarked on his Facebook timeline.
The 48-year-old author, singer, and songwriter acknowledged that there was fierce competition for his Insha Allah with King Paluta in the 2024 TGMA Best Hiplife Song category, but with God’s grace, he was hopeful about winning.
