Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has received praise from the Asantehene, His Royal Majesty Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, for his outstanding contribution to the conception of the GENSER Kumasi Pipeline Project.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the Pipeline’s opening in Anwomaso, Kumasi, the Asantehene recalled the Minister’s unwavering commitment to seeing the project through to completion.
“Someone even claimed that GENSER had purchased my son and grandson, but he did so out of unadulterated love for Ghana and the Ashanti region,” the king declared.”I’m proud of him,” he continued.
Taking advantage of the occasion, the Asantehene called for a stronger partnership between the public and private sectors in order to guarantee the nation’s huge industrialization.
In addition to the brilliant minds who greatly contributed to the project’s realization—such as the Vice President of the Republic, H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, previous Ministers of Energy, Technical Advisors, and the dynamic team at the Ministry of Energy—I, in all humility pay glowing tribute to them, as acknowledged by the company for my modest role in conceptualizing and shepherding the project. “I have no doubt that this project will revitalize the Ashanti Region’s industrial sector by improving the region’s natural gas supply to key stakeholders, ultimately positioning the region as a pivotal industrial hub within the broader context of the NPP government’s industrialization agenda,” he continued.
Both governmental and commercial organizations, including the VRA, AKSA, and CENIT, among others, have decided to move or construct new power plants in Anwomaso in order to make use of the facility after the pipeline project was successfully completed.
