Fatawu Mohammed, a legend for Accra Hearts of Oak SC, claims that the club could not afford to pay him even enough to buy a bicycle.
According to reports, the club released the player after he reportedly put in a poor performance in the 2022–2023 Ghana Premier League season.
He claims that his participation in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for the Ghanaian national team allowed him to purchase his first and only automobile.
“I didn’t get even a bicycle from Hearts of Oak. I bought my car with Black Stars qualification bonus.
“The only thing I earned from Hearts of Oak SC was the call-up was the call-up I had to the Black Stars team”, the freshly sacked captain said. “I couldn’t buy anything with my salary at Hearts of Oak. It was a hand-to-mouth salary,” he said.
Under Fatawu’s leadership, the Phobians have won the Ghana Premier League for the first time in 12 years and two consecutive MTN FA CUP trophies.
