Retained National Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Louisa Hanna Bisiw has recounted the challenges she overcame to be in her re-election bid.
She said five different groups on the orders of some prominent NDC people were tasked to ensure that delegates voted against her.
“There were five different groups on the election ground campaigning against me to make sure I lose the election”, she disclosed in an interview with Accra-based Radio Gold on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
Despite the strong opposition she faced, Dr Bisiw says she emerged victorious thanks to her Colleague female MPs and all other women leaders who went against the establishment to reward hard work.
“I am most grateful to my Colleague female MPs and all other women leaders who were there to support and reward hard work. May God bless you mightily”, she said.
She further described the contest as “them against me”, explaining that the party came against her with the argument that nobody has occupied that position for two consecutive terms hence there is no need for her to go for a second term.
“Somehow, people say that in the contest of women wing, nobody has contested twice, so they said Hanna shouldn’t go. The NDC contest was them against me.
“Per our party records nobody has gone two times. It was Ama Benewaa Doe who went twice but even with that, there were no elections in her second term. The party decided to maintain her with the reason that time wasn’t on our side”, she explained.
“From 1992, all elected officers went for only one term, so they all said Hanna shouldn’t go for a second term”, she asserted.
