Former President John Dramani Mahama has paid homage to the memory of the founder of the opposition National Democratic Congress, the late Ft Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.
On 12th November 2020, the country was hit with the shocking and heart-rending news of the passing away of Ghana’s longest serving Head of State.
The shock was deep and the sadness, overwhelming. The grief was interspersed with utter disbelief.
Described as a man who stood by his principles with such deep commitment that never wavered, many took inspiration from Mr Rawlings’ unique leadership and even considered him their political godfather.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Mr Mahama touted the qualities of the former NDC leader and held that even in death “His (Rawlings) legacy lives on and continues to shape the moral compass of many.“
“It is 2 years already since the passing of President Jerry John Rawlings, fondly called JJ.
He steered our nation for 19 years, during which time he laid a solid foundation for our 4th Republic. In these stormy times of economic uncertainty, he is remembered for his astute leadership in similar circumstances in the past.
His legacy lives on and continues to shape the moral compass of many.”
