Galamsey has over the years taken over the country with a record 13 out of the 16 regions in Ghana actively involved in the illegality. President Akufo-Addo in 2017 upon assuming office told Ghanaians that he was ready to put his presidency on the line to make sure that he stops galamsey. It has been almost 6 years and nothing concrete has been achieved. Many have reason to believe that the inability of the President to stop the illegality is because there are government big wigs involved in galamsey.
Yesterday news came in that Captain Smart had been arrested as he was going home from work. Though information on that was little, Media General released a statement that they were working to get the details and get him released. Many however claimed that Captain Smart was arrested because of some comments he made that the President is involved in galamsey.
Today, Thursday, October 20, 2022 less than 12 hours after Captain was picked up by the National Investigation Bureau NIB formerly the BNI, the Onua Maakye host has been released. Appearing on the show this morning, Captain Smart sent a firm message to the First Gentleman of the Land. He boldly insisted that no one can stop him from speaking the truth. According to him, Akufo-Addo knows him and what he can do and so no one should try to intimidate him because he is more powerful than those tiny threats.
“You guys can go to hell. I will not stop what I am saying. I have said it and will say it again that the Presidency is involved in galamsey. They can do whatever they want. Today what I will say on the show will shock many. And to the security apparatus, keep on fooling. Today you are in power but tomorrow you will be on pension. I fear no one” Captain Smart said.
It will be interesting to hear the full details of what might have caused the arrest of Captain Smart. Some say this is a war on press freedom. Well, it is up to the Presidency to prove to all by acting and dealing with the galamsey menace.
