A Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, has called for the dismissal of the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for what he believes is a poor approach to collecting taxes especially in the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the NPP.
He criticized the GRA Boss for not organizing a stakeholder consultation prior to introducing the approach to collecting taxes in the region.
The GRA has positioned its officers at shops, restaurants, and other businesses in the Ashanti region to take details of sales for tax purposes.
This has resulted in shops shutting down to protest against the GRA’s action.
Mr Owusu-Bempah said in a writeup that “What is his motivation for doing this in the Ashanti Region which is the stronghold of the NPP? Who is behind him?
“You don’t put system in place, no consultation done before you roll out this, the man should be sacked.”
