Bernard Mornah, who is the former Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has revealed to the ruling government to bring galamsey to an end by making a law that stops everybody from mining in the country, Ghana for not less than 10 years.
Acccording to Bernard Mornah, it is the sole responsibility of the government in power to help stop mining in Ghana, if only it is causing more harm than good to the good citizens of the country.
It is now obvious that our water bodies, cocoa farms and reserved forests are been destroyed by the actions and activities of mining. Whether being illegal mining, small scale mining and etc, these activities are the same and are having bad effects on our peaceful environment.
We no longer get clean water to drink, all because of the chemicals that have been put in our water bodies by illegal miners. Also, the sole ways in which we can help develop our agriculture sector is being destroyed. Our farm lands that produce us with food are under serious attack, especially our cocoa, Bernard Mornah explained.
Seriously, I think the government should ban mining activities from the country. I mean all forms of mining. Not just small scale. If it is possible, ban mining completely.
“We should ban it, not just small scale. Let us put a moratorium on this for the next ten years. Ban mining completely”.
Former chairman of People’s National Convention, Bernard Mornah said this on TV3 station.
