The world is still mourning after the death of Queen Elizabeth early this month. Charles III has succeeded his mum and plans are underway to organize a grand royal burial for the late Queen. Queen Elizabeth is the longest serving monarch of the United Kingdom and the second longest serving monarch in Europe after Louis XIV.
The funeral of the Queen will come off on Monday, September 19, 2022 and many world leaders are expected to visit the country and mourn with the Royal Family. Many media houses will be streaming the live funeral and in Ghana the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation will be telecasting the live funeral proceedings.
However, many Ghanaians are questioning why the major broadcasting station in Ghana should be showing the programme when it can show other programmes. It can be recalled that some few months ago it was reported that the GBC owed the Electricity Company of Ghana a whopping sum of over 15 million cedis. It cannot be confirmed if they have cleared the debt or not but Ghanaians are wondering if the decision to telecast the funeral of the Queen is a better priority than paying their debts.
The issue of the death has created so much controversy in the country. Today for instance a thanksgiving service ceremony was held for the late monarch ad questions have been raised if such a programme was worth the time. According to some of the comments, Ghana has more pressing issues to deal with than the live telecast of a funeral of a monarch who might not have even cared about the country.
Despite the negative criticisms some also welcome the idea of the live telecast on GBC. Interesting, many are wondering who will be paying for such a programme as it will show at a prime time which could have been used to discuss national issues
Are you happy about the live telecast on Monday?
