The fight against corruption continues to be a topical matter in the media and public space as day in and day out, there are allegations of corruption in various facets of the economy.
As part of efforts to curb the soaring menace of corruption, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo swore in the Board of Governors of the Office of the Special Prosecutor in 2018, a move that would eventually lead to the establishment of the office.
A lot has happened since with the first appointee, Lawyer Martin Amidu eventually resigning citing interference from the Presidency.
Kissi Agyebeng was eventually appointed to continue with the mandate of the office and there are several issues he has been pursuing the recent Labianca cold store and the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
Speaking about the recent developments from the office of the Special Prosecutor, private legal practitioner, Lawyer Justice Abdulai reiterated that besides the establishment of the office, Ghanaians should not expect any commitment or effort from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo in the fight against corruption.
He proffered this opinion when he was speaking on the “Key Points” show on TV3 this morning.
He argued that there have been instances where appointees of the President have been found to have engaged in acts of conflict of interest, and corruption and are under investigation but the President refused to ask them to step aside to allow investigations but instead assumes a posture as though he is defending them. This, he said, shows a lack of serious commitment by the President to the fight against corruption.
“I think that Ghanaians should not expect any effort by the President in the fight against corruption besides the establishment of the office of the Special Prosecutor. His posture and on allegations against some of his appointees show a lack of commitment to the fight against corruption” he said.
Meanwhile, the management of Labianca cold store has served notice that they intend to go to court to seek redress because they maintain that in their dealings, they have acted by law.
