Over the past 2 weeks there has been an interesting debate regarding conflict of interest. This question arose after Kwasi Kyei Darkwah made some strong allegations against Ken Ofori Atta. He accused the Finance Minister of using his role as minister to also take certain critical decisions when it comes to matters about Databank. Ofori Atta had mentioned that he had pulled out of Databank but some feel he still has dealings with the bank.
In a presentation on Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere noted that Ken Ofori Atta did no wrong and stated that what happened to Databank and Ofori Atta can also happen to Strategic African Securities (SAS) and Togbe Afede. He noted that Togbe’s also made monies while serving as transactional advisors to the government during the time of the NDC government. Paul quoted an amount of between 40-100 million cedis.
Later Management at SAS wrote to Paul to deny they made such an amount. They note that the amount is less than 40 million. Paul admitted that the amount he quoted might not be right but dared SAS to give Ghanaians the right figure. Paul boldly stated that if SAS fails to declare the fees they received he will apply for it and let Ghanaians know the figure. Paul admitted that he has the figure already but waiting on SAS to confirm it but failure to do so will see his wrath as he will expose Togbe’s SAS and let Ghanaians know how the made so much from Ghanaians.
Strategic African Securities is yet to respond on the actual amount they received. However, one key thing to ask is why Paul is changing the focus of the discussion from Ken Ofori Atta and his conflict of interest with Databank. It is also not clear why Paul is targeting Togbe Afede a man who paid for his fees and fought to bring him up. Many say Paul is only doing the bidding of his new master. Paul himself alludes that he is acting as a patriot to bring transformation.
