Founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey has waded into discussions within the party concerning winning the 2024 Presidential elections.
The senior citizen during a sit-down interview with TV3 reiterated that the party as a matter of urgency must focus on putting in measures to assuage the economy and improve the livelihood of Ghanaians instead of getting fixated on “breaking the 8”.
The New Patriotic Party is yet to elect a flag bearer who would lead the party into the 2024 elections and already, there are widespread indications that the the party intends to win and hold on to political power beyond the usual eight (8) years since the 4th Republican dispensation.
This, the founding member opines is wrong considering the economic situation of the country. He believes that the party and by extension the government must focus on improving the livelihood of the ordinary Ghanaian and not on political power.
“ It is wrong for the party to be talking about breaking the 8 at this time when those in charge have failed to live up to expectations. If you are given the nod and you fail to perform, you cannot expect the people to give you another opportunity to rule. And this goes for all the political parties; you cannot expect the people to continue to allow you to lead when you have been an abject failure. I would advise the party and the government to focus on improving the livelihood of Ghanaians above anything else”, he said.
Meanwhile, the founding member has also reiterated that no member of the current economic management team should be given the chance to lead the party into the 2024 elections. He said they have failed to perform and so, therefore, do not deserve to lead the party in the next elections.
Mr Charles Wereko-Brobbey has been very vocal and never minced words when expressing his views about his party and the government.
