Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu says road construction is not part of his job as a Legislature.

This, he says, is the reason why he does not go about promising to construct or repair roads during election campaigns.

“I have never done that. It is because of the general approach, especially with those of them who wants to succeed in becoming Members of Parliament, they will go and tell people that have you seen your MP, he has been there for two terms, he has not been able to facilitate any development project and so vote me in and I will do this., I will do that, it’s not your job”, he told TV3’s Johnny Hughes in an interview.

Mr Kei-Mensah Bonsu has come under serious criticism from residents in the Suame Constituency, who have accused him of neglecting the area and reneging on his promises to them during the electioneering period.

The Constituents have complained and petitioned severally over the deplorable nature of their roads but none of their appeals have yielded any meaningful results.

Being fed-up with the situation, some of the residents recently took matters into their own hands by physically attacking Mr Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, pelting him with what was reported to be “stones”.

Mr Kyei-Mensah Bonsu later came out to say he was rather pelted with sachet water and that the perpetrators were members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency and not from the New Patriotic Party, which he leads in Parliament.

Leadership of the NDC in the area have however denied the accusations and challenged the MP to prove the same.
