President Nana Addo, also known as ‘Nana Show Boy’; though currently under numerous ‘hot attacks’, due to the current difficulties in the country; is still doing more to ensure situations are brought under control.

According to the constitution of Ghana, the Chief Justice and other Justices of the Supreme Court, are nominated by the President, in consultation with the Council of State, and with the approval of the Parliament of Ghana.

In May 2020; prior to the 2020 general elections, President Nana Addo nominated four new Judges to the Supreme Court.

The four Judges were Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga, Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu, Mr Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, and Professor Henrietta J.A.N. Mensa-Bonsu.

This action by President Nana Addo; especially few month ahead of elections, was welcomed by mixed feelings from Ghanaians.

Where-as some some Ghanaians believe, that the president’s nomination was normal, others also suspects a ‘foul play’, ahead of the elections (especially; if the election out-come ends up in the Supreme Court.

Today; about two years to the next general elections (come December 2024), President Nana Addo has done it again.

The latest information coming from the presidency, has revealed that, President Nana Addo has nominated Four new Judges for elevation to Supreme Court bench.

The report which was capture on citinewsroom.com states that, “The list comprises three justices of the Court of Appeal and a Justice of the High Court”.

According to citinewsroom.com, “the nominees from the Court of Appeal are Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu, Justice George Kingsley Koomson, and Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu”, also from the High Court is Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu”.

These appointments; which are expected to fill vacancies at the Supreme court, are subject to parliamentary vetting, and subsequent approval or rejection.

Making the announcement on the floor of Parliament, RT Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, revealed that, a letter was sent to him by the President, with the list of the nominees.

A portion of the letter from the president reads; “As a result of pending and projected vacancies at the Supreme Court this year, the Judicial Council advised, me on 4th July 2022 by letter, under the hand of its Chairperson, Chief Justice Anin-Yeboah, of the suitabilities of my nominations for appointment, to the Court of these persons in accordance with Article 144 (2), of the constitution”.

Again; the big question is…why another elevation of Judges to the Supreme Court, just about one and half year to another general election?
