Black Stars of Ghana could encounter a slash in bonuses as the Government of Ghana seeks IMF bailout. As the nation gets ready to meet the conditionality of International Monetary Fund, government may not be able to dole out huge bonuses to the team for World Cup matches in Qatar later this year.
In seeking IMF bailout, Government of Ghana will be expected to cut down spending which includes spending lump sum of money on Black Stars bonuses. The cut in expenditure will be a clear indication of how willing government is to meet the conditions put in place by IMF. By this, government may not be able to pay large figures as winning bonus and qualification bonuses. Even though players will be paid, the situation could be different as compared to previously editions.
The other route through which money could be mobilized for the Senior National team is to appeal to corporate bodies for support for the national team. The amount to be realized from such an appeal may be spent strictly on Black Stars activities for the global football competition.
Black Stars will need over 4 million dollars to have a successful campaign at the World Cup. This will include camping before the tournament, preparatory games to be played ahead of the tournament and bonuses and per diems.
