A group under the Asante Youth Association has accused the governing New Patriotic Party of starving the Ashanti Region of development following what it says are unfulfilled promises.
The group known as the Asokore Mampong Youth has described as deceptive a promise by Government to construct interchanges at the Anloga-junction, Suame roundabout, and the Kumasi Airport roundabout.
The group also said the Government has failed to fix bad roads in the region.
Members of the group at a news conference in Kumasi also accused Members of Parliament from the Ashanti Region of failing to push for the development of the region.
Convener of the Asokore Mampong Youth Association, Osei Akoto hinted at a protest by the traditional youth group if the government fails to address their concerns.
“Considering the amount of support that the people of the Ashanti Region give to this government, we were expecting that they would do massively as compared to what is happening in Accra,” he said.
Mr. Akoto noted that the government had not shown serious intent to start new development projects in the region.
“Even the little ones that they have started, they’ve not completed them,” he said.
He further said he does not expect the government to live up to expectations.
“Can they say that the promises that they made, they can use three years to achieve all of them? They have not even started,” Mr. Akoto.
