The Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah has disclosed that the National Service Secretariat has plans to increase the current proposed monthly allowance for National Service Personnel. This comment came after the agitation by the President of the Coalition of Suffering National Service Personnel Group, Weachea Awaregya who called for an increase in the allowance to meet the current economic challenges facing the country.
National Service Personnel in the country currently receives a monthly allowance of GH¢559.04. This amount is considered to be too small for National Service Personnel, especially in this current economic hardship. The Coalition of Suffering National Service Personnel has, however, proposed a minimum of GH¢800 to be paid as a monthly allowance.
Madam Oware-Mensah responded to the agitation that there are plans that have been tabled before the Education Committee of Parliament to do something about the monthly allowance that is being paid to National Service Personnel.
She, however, failed to mention the exact amount to be paid but said confidently that it will be more than the proposed GH¢800.
