Chairman Wontumi has been retained for the third time as the regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party. In this article, we look at exactly what Wontumi’s win means for Dr. Bawumia’s flag bearer ambitions.
Dr. Bawumia has shown clearly that he would like to be the next flag bearer of the ruling NPP going into the 2024 elections. Alan Kyeremanteng, Kennedy Agyapong, among others have also shown interest.
Chairman Wontumi’s win today means that indeed Dr. Bawumia is very likely to win the flag bearer position of the party since Wontumi has already expressed his utmost support for Dr. Bawumia even before his contest.
Wontumi has a program on his television station called “Di Bawumia Ho Adanse3″ which translates ” Testify the good things about Bawumia”. The program clearly tells you of Chairman Wontumi’s support for Bawumia.
Bawumia is now likely to win the flag bearer position of the party because Ashanti Region is currently the largest region with more NPP supporters and so if Wontumi is able to amass most if not all of those supporters for Bawumia, then it will be a walk in the park for him. If that happens, it means, he will beat Alan Kyeremanteng and others to the flag bearer race.
