As a student of political strategy, let me share my observations on e-levy and Mahama with you.
The condom tax was a tax on pleasure. E-levy is a tax on pain. I don’t know how many rounds men go at night but I do know that they have to go many rounds during the day to make any money, because ‘no pain, no gain’.
And if we were asked to kick out a government that tried to tax our pleasure, what must we be asked to do to the government that is taxing our pain?
Those who take Mahama on must thread very, very cautiously. Over the years every weakness in his political armory has been sealed with steel.
If anyone takes him on corruption, he has an effective reply. If you take him on family and friends, he has but why would you even dare try this? If you take him on the economy, it is Ghanaians who may take you on in reply.
The only weakness in Mahama’s armory is dumsor. And when you want to use an 8-year-old failure to judge a man in 2024, you could come across as deputy Satan desperately unwilling to give poor sinners a second chance.
And quite sadly, Mahama has done absolutely nothing to repair his image. All the repair works have been done for him by only three people who by rhetoric unmatched by results have papered over nearly all the cracks in Mahama.
If Mahama is a broken-down house, the three expert masons of his rehabilitation are Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, and Ken Ofori-Atta.
And of the three, the least innocent is the man who will bear the most guilt. The one who did the least damage in this government may have to bear the greatest cost. It is Bawumia.
This is quite a sad reality because I like Bawumia’s story. As an underdog myself I like underdogs. As an unfancied pick in 2008, Bawumia has had to work hard to be accepted in the NPP.
I know how it feels when you are not accepted at a place and you work hard to prove your worth. But I digress.
Right now, Mahama is a fire now. I hope those who want to take him on know what happens when you throw sticks, wood, or dry materials into a fire. You create a bonfire.
