Black Stars head coach Milovan Rajevac is set to defend his call up for Africa Cup of Nations as he meets the Black Stars Management Committee today, Tuesday, December 14, 2021 in Accra. The Management Committee and the technical members will discuss into detail Ghana’s preparatory programme for the impending Africa Cup of Nations, the provisional squad list for the tournament, camping in Doha and a request by head coach Milovan Rajevac to beef up his back room staff. Ghana Football Association earlier confirmed that Milovan Rajevac and his lads will open camp in Doha, Qatar, on December 22, 2021 for a period of two weeks to prepare for the competition which starts on January 9, 2022 in Cameroon.
As reported earlier, Black Stars head coach Milovan Rajevac has submitted a 40-man provisional squad for scrutiny and approval.
The Serbian tactician submitted the list as part of preparations for the next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The provisional list is made of local and foreign players. Milovan Rajevac looks ahead to building a formidable squad that will be capable of meeting target in Cameroon at the end of the continental showpiece.
Having submitted the list, Milovan Rajevac is waiting for an approval from the top hierarchy to make official announcement of players that will be pitching camp ahead of Afcon. For the approval to materialize, the Serbian trainer has to elucidate reasons behind the decision to call the players. Cogent reasons ought to be adduced as to why he prefers to assemble a large number of players for the time being.
The list will be trimmed down in the course of preparations as a 23 member squad will be submitted. Due to global pandemic COVID-19, provisions have been made for extra five players to be added and that can be exercised according to the plan of various teams.
As previously reported, defender Mohammed Salisu of Southampton and forward Afena Gyan of Inter Milan are among some Ghanaian internationals who could be part of the squad for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Five local players have been reportedly penciled for call up. Players who have excelled in recent games have a huge advantage of making the number and the final cut.
Since the Nations Cup kicks off in January, Milovan Rajevac and his henchmen – as part of preparations – will play three friendly matches scheduled for December 28, January 1 and January 5, to assess the readiness of his team.
