Match day one of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) saw some interesting results from the various league centres.
Accra Hearts of Oak begun their title defence with a goalless draw with Legon Cities.
Kotoko also travelled down South to beat Dreams FC 3-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
1. Accra Lions 1-1 Elmina Sharks
Michelle Sarpong scored the first goal of the 2021/22 GPL season as he netted for Sharks in the second half of their encounter.
It wasn’t to be their day as Accra Lions’ top scorerb Rauf Salifu scored in the dying embers of the game to make it 1-1.
2. Dreams FC 1-3 Kotoko
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored Dreams FC’s first goal of the season on Saturday with Salifu Mudasiru also registering his first of the season for Asante Kotoko in their come from behind win against the Still Believe lads.
3. Bechem United 4-0 Medeama
Emmanuel Avornyo of Bechem United FC became the first player to score a brace this season as his two goals powered the Hunters to a 4-0 win against Medeama SC on Sunday.
4. Hearts 0-0 Legon Cities
Hearts begun their title defence against Legon Cities and had numerous chances but were unable to break the defence of Legon Cities as the game ended 0-0.
5. Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 Berekum Chelsea
The GPL debutants started their campaign on a high as they beat Berekum Chelsea 1-0 at the Dun’s Park.
6. King Faisal 1-0 WAFA
Zubairu Mohammed scored the only goal at the new Baba Yara Stadium to see King Faisal begin on a high.
7. Karela 1-1 Aduana
Karela United fought back to earn a 1-1 draw with Aduana Stars at home in their opening Ghana Premier League match at the CAM Park on Sunday, 31 October 2021.
Emmanuel Gyamfi scored on his competitive debut for Aduana Stars to put the Fire Boys ahead Aziz Dogo drew Karela level.
8. Eleven Wonders 1-1 Ashanti Gold
AshantiGold began their 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League with a vital away victory against Eleven Wonders FC at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman.
The Miners recorded a 1-0 win on Sunday to start their their campaign on the bright with Eric Esso’s solitary strike in the second half.
9. RTU 1-1 Great Olympics
David Abagna’s late penalty earned Real Tamle United a point against Great Olympics at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday evening.
