There seems to be a longstanding controversy between the Ghana Police and some Members of Parliament after the police insisted on the arrest of Madina MP, Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu. Recall, Lawyer Francis Sosu led his constituents in what has been described by the police as “illegal” protest without the permission of authorities.
It was reported earlier today by credible sources that, the lawmaker was almost arrested by the National Security Operatives despite the order given by the Speaker of Parliament. The personnel stormed his church premises to arrest him whiles service was ongoing. The news has since caused massive stir and uproar between Ghanaians on social media sharing dissenting views.
Many Ghanaians who heaped massive praises on the new Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare seems to be disappointed over his latest actions on the matter. Many believes that he is overstepping his boundaries, and needs to be brought to order.
The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram constituency, Honourable Sam Nartey George has dropped a bold statement on the arrest of his colleague Member of Parliament. He has registered his resentment after Dampare disregarded a letter from the Speaker of Parliament.
According to the statement addressed to the Head of Police, the speaker called for the release of the lawmaker. However, the police hierarchy turned down the assurances of the Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin and acted. Sam George who is obviously appalled at the police actions has vowed to deal with the Ghana Police to restore sanity and respect for the Parliament House.
In a post sighted on his official Facebook page, he indicated that, it would be ‘war’ between the house and thw police. He wrote, “….Interesting times ahead. We shall see the end of this matter in this town.”
