Liverpool versus Manchester United is the fixture of the weekend in the English Premier League. The two most successfuly clubs in England’s top flight will renew their rivalry in front of the Old Trafford crowd on Super Sunday.
Both Jurgen Klopp and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are set to play the match without some of their key players who are currently sidelined with injuries. As many as nine first team players could miss the match with injuries.
Manchester United team news
United will continue without Raphael Varane. The former Real Madrid center back is yet to recover from a groin injury he sustained in the UEFA Nations League final between France and Spain.
The biggest news coming out of Old Trafford ahead of Super Sunday is a reported injury to Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese playmaker picked up a knock in the midweek Champions League win over Atalanta and is a doubt for this game against Liverpool.
Marcus Rashford also picked up a knock on his thigh in the game against Atalanta. The English forward has just returned from a long term injury and faces time on the side lines once again. Brazilian midfielder Fred is another doubt for the match after he also picked up a knock in midweek.
Amad Diallo (thigh injury) and Anthony Martial (lacking match fitness) could also miss the match with Liverpool.
Liverpool team news
Thiago Alcantara remains sidelined with a calf injury he suffered against Crystal Palace in mid-September. Teenage sensation Harvey Elliott is another absentee for Jurgen Klopp’s team as he is yet to recover from an ankle injury he suffered against Leeds United last month.
Curtis Jones is a doubt for this match. The 20 year old English midfielder is currently nursing a groin problem and the game against United could come too early for him.
Even with all these stars missing, the clash between Manchester United and Liverpool is still expected to produce a firecracker. It will be interesting to see how both teams cope with each other’s attacking threat.
Expect this one to be a high scoring encounter with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Mason Greenwood and of course Cristiano Ronaldo the stars to watch out for.
